Know about Little History of Ahmedabad City

Ahmedabad also known as Maru Amdavad, the Ahmedabad is the largest city and previous capital of Gujartat state and administrative HQ (Head Quarters) of the Ahmedabad district. The Ahmedabad is the fifth largest city and seventh largest metropolitan area of India. Ahmedabad is located near banks of Sabarmati River. 

The area around Ahmedabad has been ingabited since the eleven century, when it was known as  Ashaval.   At that time Karndev 1st the Solanki ruler of Anhilwara salaried a succeful war against the Bhil king of Ashaval and established a city called Karnavti on Sabarmanit River.
 
The Solanki rule weakened in the second half of the 13th century Vaghela period rose to power in Gujarat. The Gujarat was after came under organized of the Delhi Sultanate in the 14th century and finally came under the organized of his grandson Sultan Ahmed Shah in 1411. Who while at the banks of Sabarmati liked the forested area for a new capital city near and laid the foundation of a new walled city near Karnavti and named it Ahmedabad after the four saints in the area by the name of Ahmed. According to other sources he named if after himself. It is said that the birthday of Ahmedabad city is 26, February, 1412.

During the time of Maratha Empire governance the city became the hub of a disagreement between two Maratha clans the Peshwa of Poona and the Gaekwad of Baroda. In 1780 during the 1st Jemes Hartley stormed and imprison Ahmedabad, but it was handed backto the Marathas at the end of the war. The British East India Company took over the city in 1818 during the 3rd Anglo Maratha War. A military cantonment was established in 1824 and a municipal government in 1858. The British rule Ahmedabad became one of the most important city of the Gujarat region. One time the Ahmedabad city established itself as the home of a developing textile industry which earned it nicknamed of “Manchester”

The Indian freedom movement developed roots in the Ahmedabad city when Mahatma Gandhi establishes Kochrab and Satyagraha Ashram on the banks of Sabarmati in which would become inner nationalist activities. During the 1sr world war teacher & worker went on beat challenging civil right and improved pay and working condition. My Ahmedabad city administration and economic institutions were rendered inoperative the early 1930 by the large number of people who took to the streets in peaceful protests and again in1942 during the “Quit India Movement”. 

Ahmedabad had became a metropolis with a population if slightly under half a million people, with typical and regal European style buildings lining the city’s thoroughfare.  Ahmadabad’s economic base became more diverse with the established of heavy and chemical industry during the same period. Many countries sought to emulate India’s  economic planning strategy and one of them and the world financial centre in Seoul is designed and modelled after Ahmedabad. In the late 1970, the capital shifted to the newly built, well planned city of Gandhinagr.
